That when you live in the Deep South, all the best-tasting food looks utterly disgusting?
XD

Because most things are fried, and frying makes everything brown, and brown looks yucky.

Coconut shrimp? Nice.

Exhibit A:
It ain’t Thanksgiving in my house without Collard Greens.
...Of course, I also live in Japan now, where I regularly eat seaweed, so...

Melon as a serving bowl? Can't say I have seen that done before.

Nah. The ‘Pirate Bowl’, aka shrimp-and-crab-and-banana-in-cream-curry-sauce-with-chili-rice-on-top-of-chilled—and-sugar-frosted-tropical-fruit-mix-in-a-cataloupe-bowl.
To be paired with a good steak and a sniffer of excellent rum on the rocks.

Yeah, well, she kept asking me what I wanted for my birthday dinner and eventually I just made something up off the top of my head. >.>

Ah ok. Not as deep as where I live, but I will give you a pass. ;)
And happy birthday. Hope things are getting better for you.

Initially looked gross. Then I zoomed in and realized what it was.

I'm in the Deep South and that looks good AF.

Now, have a scoop of dirty rice and you’re set.

The dirty rice is below the shrimp and crab curry.

Was living in SF for a while and went to a doctor’s office with my younglings. It was the hungry witching hour for them, so after the appointment my wife pulled out a package of Nori and handed it to the 5 and 2 year olds. They ate it like it was very best thing they’d ever had. The doctor looked at us, looked at the kids methodically shredding their food like plant sharks, and said “I’ve never seen that before.”
I figured he’d led sheltered life.

Yeah, but Mississippi is kind of like Florida, the farther south you go, the farther north you get, just not as extreme.
